A charred log on the curb
A split log rests on the concrete curb. One end is black and glossy, and the other keeps its pale grain. On the concrete, beside the log, is a green-winged insect. Grass grows alongside.
The charred end overhangs the grass, and the shadow falls on the concrete. The wood is opened into long fibers. The insect is small and is not given a species. No person is in the frame. The note says a log, and the trunk matches. It is not assigned to a particular tree.
